Workers shocked at human remains discovery at Assmang

Construction workers were this morning shocked to discover the remains of a worker who was buried in an unmarked grave in front of a mine clinic at Assmang ‘s Blackrock mine in Kuruman, Kimberly.

“The person was buried there in his underground uniform which includes gumboots, hard hat, overalls and rain coats” says Tshepo Motsumi, the NUM‘s Deputy Regional Chairperson for Health and Safety.

The NUM has repeatedly raised the issue of possible unmarked deaths at the clinic which was refuted by mine management. “We call on the law enforcement agencies to go to the bottom of this matter” says Motsumi.

Workers were busy digging a foundation at PrimCure mine clinic when this was discovered. Mine experts indicate that from the initial look of things, the body was buried less than five years ago.
